![]() This greatly reduces the impact of a physical failure in the storage environment and provides greater performance resiliency and reliability. When this value is set to the minimum of 1, path failover generally decreases to sub-ten seconds. When the I/O Operations Limit is set to the default of 1,000 path failover time can sometimes be in the 10s of seconds which can lead to noticeable disruption in performance during this failure. This failure does not always happen immediately. During a physical failure of the storage environment (loss of a HBA, switch, cable, port, controller) ESXi, after a certain period of time, will fail any logical path that relies on that failed physical hardware and will discontinue attempting to use it for a given volume. ![]() It has been noted in testing that ESXi will fail logical paths much more quickly when this value is set to a the minimum of 1. Regardless, changing this value can improve performance in some use cases, especially with iSCSI. While changing this value from 1,000 to 1 can improve performance, it generally will not solve a major performance problem. While this is true in certain cases, the performance impact of changing this value is not usually profound (generally in the single digits of a percentage performance increase). Often the reason cited to change this value is performance. This recommendation is made for a few reasons: This will cause ESXi to change logical paths after every single I/O, instead of 1,000. Pure Storage recommends tuning this value down to the minimum of 1. Once it has issued 1,000 I/Os for that device, down that path, it will switch to a new logical path and so on. In other words, ESXi will choose a logical path, and start issuing all I/Os for that device down that path. By default, when Round Robin is enabled on a device, ESXi will switch to a new logical path every 1,000 I/Os. The I/O Operations Limit (sometimes called the “IOPS” value) dictates how often ESXi switches logical paths for a given device. In this way you can configure IP address and hostname in ESXi server. The Round Robin Path Selection Policy allows for additional tuning of its path-switching behavior in the form of a setting called the I/O Operations Limit. ![]() ![]() In 1608, John Smith described Pocahontas as “a child of tenne years old, which not only for feature, countenance, and proportion, much exceedeth any of the rest of his people, but for wit, and spirit, the only Nonpariel of his Country.” English settler William Strachey also wrote of Pocahontas’ visits to the fort, and her playful nature with the English boys there. Most historians agree that if it did occur, Smith was never in any real danger, and the event likely an elaborate adoption ritual in which Powhatan demonstrated his dominance over Smith, an English representative, who misinterpreted the event entirely.Īs relations between the Powhatan and English continued, young Pocahontas accompanied women to James Fort, where they brought food and supplies to the English men living there. In Smith’s relation, Pocahontas intervened: “she hazarded the beating out of her own braines to save mine, and not only that, but so prevailed with her father, that I was safely conducted to James towne.” Some historians question Smith’s version of this event, and importantly, whether it happened at all. While there, Smith wrote that Pocahontas saved his life after his head was placed upon a large stone. Famously, Pocahontas appears in the writings of colonist John Smith who (not until 1624) related that in December 1607 he was brought to Werowocomoco after being captured by Powhatan Indians. The history of the real Pocahontas is interwoven with the history of English colonization in Virginia, and most of what historians know about her comes from English sources and an English perspective. Lithograph depicting Pocahontas "saving" John Smith published in 1870. Like other young girls before puberty, Pocahontas likely wore little to no clothing when she first encountered the English at James Fort. She likely knew how to make baskets, pots, and bark mats for bedding, and maybe even helped construct or repair the yehakin she lived in. She would have gathered plants and herbs and weeded and planted gardens for food. Like other women and girls, Pocahontas would have helped process meat and hides after men returned from the hunt. Pocahontas was a nickname bestowed by her father, meaning “playful one.” More formally she was known as Amonute and Matoaka.Īs a young girl, Pocahontas would have learned the traditional skills dictated by her gender. In Algonquian, Werowocomoco means “place of leadership.” It served as the capital of her father’s chiefdom which spanned Tsenacomoco, which means “densely inhabited place.” The paramount chief Powhatan had many wives and many children, but Pocahontas was his favorite. By the time the English arrived in 1607, she likely lived at Werowocomoco, in today’s Gloucester County, Virginia. Born around 1597 Pocahontas was the real-life daughter of Powhatan, the paramount chief of a political and spiritual alliance of groups of fellow Algonquian-speaking Virginia Indians. Pocahontas is more than a character from a Disney movie.

![]() ![]() ![]() And the vision of the American government is as squeaky-clean as any 1950s propaganda movie, with Poitier cast as an upright Yank surrounded by shifty foreigners. We're expected to sympathise with Gere and his Basque separatist sweetie (Mathilda May) because they're passionate believers in their causes, and despise the Jackal for being merely a professional killer, though it's hard to argue that in real life fanatics are less dangerous than mercenaries. It's a good job this works so well as a machine-made movie, because its grasp of political realities is nebulous. The plot intercuts suspensefully between the master-of-disguise Jackal (Willis) as he sets up the score, and a messy alliance of compromised good guys - FBI bigwig Poitier, IRA rifleman Gere and KGB cutie Diane Venora - on a race against time to jar his aim. It's a shame Forsyth doesn't rate (or has refused) a screen credit, because most of the strengths of the film are down to him. The new film retains the book's structure and quite a bit of its plot, but jettisons the real-life historical background in favour of a contemporary yarn about grudge-holding Russian Mafiosi. This purports to be based solely on the screenplay of the 1973 Jackal movie, though that was a scrupulously faithful version of the best seller about an attempt to assassinate De Gaulle. There was evidently a remake loophole in Frederick Forsyth's rights contract for The Day Of The Jackal. ![]() ![]() ![]() This drive contains the Office installation files. Page was a prodigy of a new mold, a young man on the British blues scene who quickly became a coveted session player in the British pop factories of the time. The forest, in this analogy, was Jimmy Page. ( Rolling Stone’s critical history with the band was particularly - indeed, uniformly - clueless.) A lot of this had to do with not seeing the forest for the trees. Still, something big was going on, and many people at the time didn’t get it. Robert Plant’s lyrics - an amalgam of stolen blues lyrics, random and confused references to Norse and Tolkien mythologies, sullen misogyny, and utter nonsense - didn’t help matters. All the old terms used to explain this still apply: Zeppelin were a sledgehammer, a steamroller, a juggernaut, a leviathan, picking the music up, turning it into a club, and wielding it unmercifully, often on innocent bystanders and any nearby baby seals. But the rock Establishment didn’t quite get the band at the time. ![]() Rock’s lumpenproletariat liked them a lot, and even those with finer sensibilities could not help respecting the band’s sonics, not to mention Page’s venturesome guitar chops. The Modern Man’s Dilemma: Which Led Zeppelin Ringtone to Choose?īelow is my list of all of the band’s original studio albums, ranked from worst to best. The sound sparkles, and the many early versions and mixes of some fabled tracks will thrill fans. The final group of three albums - including Presence, In Through the Out Door, and Coda - is out this week. Now we have the latest (and definitive, we’re told) remastering of the band’s now-historic catalogue. Jimmy Page put an end to all of that with Led Zeppelin, the band that broke the blues and created something new - hard rock, heavy metal, whatever you want to call it. They were done with brio, but with probity and respect, too. Rock bands always fooled around with doing the blues louder and with less finesse, of course, but beyond that, folks like Eric Clapton were the models, with their sincere embarkations into the music. The blues were a serious matter, meant to be played a certain way. It’s difficult to remember now how precious the blues seemed to rockers in the 1960s.
